AWM| While Brittany Garrett was getting ready for her day, she heard a strange noise outside. Although she might have called the cops, she didn’t need to because her Army veteran husband was home to protect her. She turned to him and quickly realized that neither of them were expecting any company – especially at this hour in the morning.
Eager to find out what all the noise was about, Brittany carefully opened the door. As she cracked open the door, she felt like someone was watching her. Then the neighbor’s door closed. And then she saw what was left in their front yard…
Brittany’s husband is U.S. Army Specialist Christopher Garrett and he is a true hero. After he was injured during a mission in Afghanistan, he was sent home – and now he must endure a daily life of suffering and dealing with his disability.
Brittany opened up about her husband’s brutal war-time injuries to IJ Review: “He was shot through the lower abdomen, and the bullet exited his right butt cheek.”
Ever since Christopher was mauled in Afghanistan, he has been surviving at home with his wife and son. He is on medical retirement and gets a paycheck from the taxpayers every month. And one of his neighbors at their Oregon home noticed.
On the day that Brittany heard the loud noise outside of their home, she couldn’t believe what was left in their yard. She first thought that someone near and dear to them had died – why? Because her husband was in tears.
Then she realized it wasn’t that. Her husband was crying over the new John Deere ride-along lawn mower that “a grateful American” left on their property. And it came along with a loving note:
“I hope this saves time for the things that matter most in your life. Thank you for your service and for my freedom.”
Because an anonymous neighbor hated to watch Christopher suffer through his yardwork – especially after serving America so heroically in the war-torn country of Afghanistan – they wanted to give back to the soldier – to pay it forward.
“I don’t know who they are, but they have been watching my 100% combat disabled husband push mow our entire yard once or twice a week, and thought this would help make more time for the important things in life!!!!”
Not only is Brittany happy for the gift, she is overjoyed to know that her husband’s fight for freedom did not go unrecognized. To know that there are still “grateful Americans” out there who appreciate military service has given this young wife and mother new hope for the coming years.
Because a watchful neighbor noticed that Christopher was struggling with his yard work, they gave him something that means a lot to the family. And best of all, they didn’t even try to take credit for the huge act of kindness.
